That's one I've asked about before: Do religious doctrines allow for extreterrestrial life?
Dave, I'd have to say that it seems that the Judeo-Christian tradition (and, by extension, Islam) would not allow for the possibility of intelligent extraterrestrial life that was not human, if one were to take things literally. Since it's held that God made man in his image, there almost could not be other sentient life forms.

Of course, if you don't read the Bible literally, it's much easier to say that man made God in his image, which would certainly allow for extraterrestrial life forms that are radically different from us.

For the record, knowing something about their intelligence, I've lately begun to wonder whether whales and dolphins have a sense of a deity, and, if so, whether they've also had a savior. Weird, no?
