I've been a Spanish resident with Residencia for years. I do, however, go to the doctor in the UK.

I'm not sure what the official way of doing things is, but I've never had any problems, even though the GP I visit knows I live abroad, and the outpatient clinic actually worked my appointments round my availability and flights!!

When I visit the GP I just sign a form to say I'm a visitor to that surgery. I offered Nat Ins number at the hospital and before visiting, asked if I had to try and lay my hands on my Medical Card. Neither were needed.

I must say that it really is comforting to receive top quality medical care, knowing that it's available and not having to worry how much of a dent it's going to make on the wallet.

BTW, booked a holiday recently, with insurance included. Even though I'm a Spanish resident, if anything happens, I get re-patriated to UK for medical attention!
