I don't think humans can get by on what gorillas eat.

The answer is simple. Population control and better education. Less people taking up space who can't fulfill a need.

I feel bad for those people who are loosing work, it sucks. So we should do something about that now but plan for a future were less people are needed.

The first step to finding a solution to humanity's woes is a universal, worldwide acknowledgement of what is (in my opinion) the biggest contributing factor. Phrased another way, job growth is outpaced by population growth. On our current trajectory, things are only going to get worse with time.
