What is wrong with you Bungle? Your opinion is basically the same as saying that everyone that goes to York must be going to shoot a welshman with a bow and arrow.
There is an art to drinking (knowing what to drink and how much) that men like Kingsley Amis and Hitch mastered but most people never learn. I enjoy my share of tipple, but I have no doubt that heavy drinking is a cheap form of entertainment. I don't look down on it, mind you, but I'm aware that it's usually the last resort for evenings when you have no plans. Undoubtedly, someone who spends his free time going to museums, building model ships, or gardening (that's what you brits enjoy, right?) derives more satisfaction and fulfillment than those who prefer getting sloshed with mates at a venue that plays shitty music and serves overpriced drinks.

Incidentally, York seems like a rather nice place. I wouldn't mind visiting.
