Think about this for a minute. A petrol powered car will recycle engine heat to get the temperature up in the cabin in the winter. If you live in a cold area, be prepared to see your electric car's range decrease substantially when the temperature drops... as your batteries are being used to heat your ass instead of taking you somewhere. Isn't that a valid concern?

You are correct, but nearly every device was designed specifically for lower power consumption. When settings are set to auto, climate, lighting, seat temperature, nav system and audio are monitored for battery consumption. I'm certain battery life will vary depending on temperature and driving conditions, but the car pretty much guides you every step of the way to be efficient.
