They do price for the business they want (as do most insurance companies). I pay something around £280pa for £100k contents plus £15k specified items and buildings cover/rebuild costs (4 bed detached with double garage in Surrey), including over 5 years no claims. That's pretty competitive from the quotes I've had from elsewhere, though haven't tried a broker.

There might be a reduction for the missus having her car insurance with them too but I can't see it being that big a reduction.

I can't seem to get anything under well over a grand for 85K contents (+15K specific items) for 3bed terraced in London. The claim I filed in April (as one f*cker from the removal company basically robbed us of approx 19K worth of jewelry) in combination with the location (Islington) seems to blow everything out of proportion...

I got one broker on the case at the moment. He's supposed to call me back, we'll see what he comes up with. I have a few other options (the AA, as they cover my building insurance, Adrian Flux because they were good back then when I needed specialist car insurance for the ROUSH, and maybe Natwest as I have a staff Advantage Gold account). Anyway I'm not expecting anything serious under 1 - 1.5K/year.
