While BMI is imperfect, it is a good predictor. Guess who the prime candidates for becoming bloated in their mid 30's are? Big muscle guys. It is hard to stop eating when you stop lifting everyday, which invariably happens around the mid 30's. Maybe you will be the .5% special case that exercises just as much in your 40's, 50's and 60's... but odds are you will get tired just like everyone else, tired of exercising I mean, not shoveling food to your mouth.

What it takes is the ability to fast a couple of times a week to help contract your stomach, and not having more eyes than stomach when filling your plate, and most importantly, stopping eating as soon as you feel full, regardless what food is still on your plate.

Most of our parents had parents that remembered or were taught to clean your plate due to the ration era of WW2 or the depression. That view of food is antiquated in our over calorie saturated world.
Exercise is a life-style choice. I have been doing it since I was 14. My eating habits are directly correlated to the amount of exercise and calories I expel a day. I took a week off after having my wisdom teeth extracted and didn't have much of an appetite at all. Also, underweight individuals such as yourself have a tendency of being just as unhealthy as those who are overweight.
