He was faster in clear air before he changed his tyres. If Kimi was faster he would have qualified first. Hamilton controlled the race, did what he needed to do. Also he was in fuel-save mode. Lotus car is good though.
Faster in race has nothing to do with qualifying. They both had clear air, and Kimi was lapping 0,5 sec faster 'till he catched Hamilton.
Hamilton wasn't on fuelsaving mode really, he just wasn't taking max out of the engine nor using the richest mix, he was on the middle mix, which everyone does most of the time, and richest mix & max revs are only used if necessary which Hamilton had to do in in the last few laps, but still every time Kimi dropped a bit back for clearer air, he had no issues getting the time back in one lap.

drinksalot, I'm fully aware Kimi did his overtakes with pitstops, just like almost all the other overtakes were done - the track just doesn't allow overtaking unless the other makes mistake or has really dead tires

heck, even McLaren pitcrew told Hamilton Kimi is a lot faster
