The answer is complex but a major part of it is that both Parents need to work now and a lot of kids are latchkey kids or daycare kids. Parents come home from work... They are tired. IMO it seems rare to see a mother and father that both work 8 hour shifts to come home and cook a meal from scratch. These days it seems take out, delivery, or partially premade foods are the way to go. Parents are tired when they come from home so they dont spend as much time with kids, I don't blame them for feeling this way but when you decide to have a kid you need to think about these things. I don't want children because I want to raise my children and be there all the time. I can't do that with a career. Raising a child is expensive and not a part time when you feel like it job. Many people IMO don't deserve kids or shouldn't have kids due to /dilemmas/choices and so on...
That pretty much explains it.
