Rent a car and go traveling around the states. ( Automatic cars suck though )

I assure you, that if you took a month long road trip through the US with our wide, straight roads... you would not think an auto sucks. Almost every city is set up in a grid, and when you are stuck in traffic, an auto is your friend. For a road trip you would love an automatic. For a weekend drive up the 101 along california's coast, then you would want a stick.

Applebee's Fine place to get a cheap drink going (lots of $1 drinks) and their spinach alfredo dip is good, but i'd stick to the appetizers.

As to IHOP/Denny's, bad, slow service with below average food, but DM is right, their omelets are an oasis on that menu. But hey, if it is 1:30 am, and you are hungry... there are not many other sit down choices. As to seafood, the cooking is not what would worry me. Putting something in a boiler, steamer or fryer for 12 minutes isn't rocket science. It would be more the freshness of their product. Live lobster is just fine at a Red Lobster, and their dinner rolls are flaky, buttery goodness. Pappadeaux would be a slight step up if there are any around.

If I were you I'd ask around and find where a good country or soul food place was. They should be in abundance, locally owned, and full of flavors you don't often find in the UK.

Get you a nice plate of Chicken Fried Steak, with fried okra, collard greens and mash potatoes with country gravy and peach cobbler for desert. That is an oklahoma dinner. And quite tasty and filling. Wait until you see the steak. Most cover the entire dinner plate with the sides in separate bowls.

And don't forget to tip anywhere you sit down and are waited on or at bars. You will see tip jars other places, but unless you sit down and are waited on (restaurant wise) no one expects a tip. Waiters/bartenders/servers only make $2 an hour, so they notice if you don't.

Chains that will be around that are good: Whataburger: Easily the best fast food hamburger. Dairy Queen or Braums: good place to get a bananna split, milkshake, malt. Texas Land and Cattle: Good steaks. Hooters: Good wings and plenty of 19 yr old ***** tits and asses on display. Speaking of tits, you should definitely go to a titty bar. If nothing else, just for the horror
