Not bad, but the "Jock" was a horrendous actor. The dialogue between he and Dexter in the end was so appallingly cheesy. I'm sure the season will improve but they tried to force the religious angle in too many scenes to make it believable.
Not to mention that it's totally out of character for Dexter to kill someone AT the reunion he's attending WHILE it's going on. In reality everyone at the reunion would be questioned over the missing man, his texts would be traced to the girl Dexter got the BJ from, and she'd claim her phone went missing right after being with Dexter.

There's about 5 other situations I could name just from the first episode that are as bad as this one.

No, TV isn't reality, but Dexter (the show) has gotten sloppy. It's riddled with plotholes and unrealistic scenarios that the early seasons just didn't have.

As I said earlier, it's still a fun watch and I enjoy the show but it's a shadow of what it once was and is far from being "great" any longer. My interest in the character progression of Dexter and the amazing performance by Michael C Hall is what keeps me watching.
