My daughter had a head start. Her father taught her how to read before she ever entered kindergarten. But the HeadStart program has never achieved anything. Children who go through the program show no improvement over kids who don't. And the reason is simple. Because HeadStart was put into place to overcome parents and peer groups who look down upon, or at least ignore, academic achievement, but HeadStart is not strong enough to jump that hurdle. Your family, and your peer group, defines you. And no program is powerful enough to overcome that.
