It was a stupid comment, however you look at it.

He's totally bought into the idea of his own greatness. Such that his perception of reality is completely skewed.

It's not very often that even national leaders are afflicted with this level of hubris.

Just a totally arrogant individual. In our everyday lives, we reject these types, and refuse to associate with them. People instinctively know not to trust them.
