You are 100% correct, Klein. So what is the alternative? A person unaffiliated with any party won't get far in an election. Do you really think this country is prepared for no-party elections?
That's why people have to be more actively involved in the parties that do exist.
The Tea Party hooked up with Republicans and managed to effect some policy issues.
Not that I agree with them, but that's how you do it.

OWS just messed up. They lost their message in partying and being overly 'democratic' - so much so that there was not real leadership and no real message. I think the issue of campaign finance reform would resonate with all parties involved, but until there is some sort of peace pipe smoked, elections will go to the candidate who raises the most money.

Really stupid.
