i have always wondered why khidr (as) or jinns who claim to be sahabi/tabieen, do not clarify the aqeedah of the muslims so that we can have a little more unity between us.

I second this,

There are still sahabhi jinn alive. Recently I came accross a jinn from the time of Shaykh Abdul Qadir Jilanee (ra), and actually that jinn lived with Shaykh Abdul Qadir Jilanee (ra) till now he is alive.

And another even happened, is that one of the tablighi buzurg came in contact with a muslim jinn from the time of sahaba (ra). And the buzurg asked about the difference between the tablighi work being done now and the tablighi work in the time of sahabah (ra). And the jinn replied that the simple difference was that the effort sahabah (ra) made in the night was more then you are doing now [which means they worshipped more at night].

But in the end of the day, I am myself convinced that deoband are on the right track. If you study the biography of Moulana Rashid Ahmed Gangohi (ra), find the part where he (ra) saw prophet (saw) in dream, and the prophet (saw) questioned him.
