Do you know which tariqa he used to follow?

shaykh hamza clearly places tasawwuf in its proper place, however he does not actively promote tariqa, because he has been quoted in some of his talks to have said it causes a group mentality - e.g. 'my tariqa is better than yours/my shaykh is better than yours' - this does occur, although in most tariqas i know this is one of the first lessons i.e. not to think you are better than any other muslim. based on this, one can conclude he is not in a particular tariqa - and certainly he does not ever promote any particular tariqa, and extensively quotes from a variety of sufi shuyukh, especially Imam al-Ghazali (no tariqa), Sidi Ahmad al-Zarruq (shadhili). He not long ago published a book of tasawwuf in english.

he used to be a member of shaykh abdalqadir's jama'a a long time ago - and he is shadhili-darqawi; but he left this group, and does not refer to shaykh abdalqadir at all nowadays.

it appears that he has taken the position of one of his teachers, shaykh murabit al-hajj (no need for tariqa).

may Allah preserve our `ulama
