Today 1955 Channel4; 2055 Channel4+1.
Blind Muslim Sana Viner, who had to overcome feelings about canines being unclean when she began using guide dogs, discusses her views on animals and the afterlife.

Only scholars are well placed to guide us on such things but truly thought provoking and the video does bring to the fore Muslims' relationships or lack of it with animals, their understanding (What kind of animals interacted with the Prophet PBUH- The Sahaba RA) and more importantly how to balance between their condemnation and acceptability in our normal day to day life.
Here in Africa the first reaction to seeing a dog is to stone it. The reasons are 2 fold:
1. That the dog might be carrying disease
2. That the dog represents a sign of oppression and colonial mastery where they were being used as a scare tactic when handling riotic masses.
I personally love dogs and their loyalty but obviously not as pets.
If you truly ask me, it is the lack of compassion or sheer selfishness that as humans we have/are left/leaving out opportunities for our salvation such as helping out blind people (physically challenged). Imagine the ajar one would be getting if one is confronted with PC people on street crossings etc. and you help out! Double edged sword I know, but hey opportunities come and go. Just recently I read somewhere that there are Islamic old peoples homes shooting up in the west! How sad!
