Ibn ‘Ata’illah said in the Hikam: ‘Whoever finds it astonishing that God should save him from his passion or yank him out of his forgetfulness has deemed the divine Power (al-qudra al-ilahiyya) to be weak. “And God has power over everything [Qur'an 18:45]“‘ (as translated by Victor Danner, in the Sufi Aphorisms of Ibn ‘Ata’illah). Likewise, the appalling negativity that one perceives in the current Muslim landscape – and in particularly within our souls – should not make one forget the indomitable power of God to change the worst of states into the most noble, and make the Muslims a credit to this age. Wa ma dhalika ‘ala Allah bi’aziz – and that is not difficult for God!

I liked the above quote.

Allot of words have been used it could have all been said with fewer words?

Summary:
Modernists like Bana had some very good qualities
They integrated the various different groupings of Muslims and allowed for non essential differences to remain
Not sufi, but spiritual, not fully salafi but close, politically active and part of the world, not isolanionist.
There is still a good potential and positivity in the teaching of Bana and his followers

Problems:
The Islamic Brotherhood and Bana were heavily influenced by Jamaludin Afghani (an Irani and a shiaa) and Muhammad Abduh (a man who made riba and taking interest halal). They also had a grudging admiration for the modern west even as they criticised it, they wanted to adopt its methods. Both Afghani and Abduh were Freemasons and Abduh was described by Lord Cromer (chairman of Barings Bank and British Governor of Egypt) as probably an agnostic and Cromer made him the rector of Al Azhar University giving fatwas for the legitimacy of taking Interest.

Bana, AlQardawi and all of the Ikhwani Muslimeen have uncritically allowed banking to continue unopposed...they have given legitimacy to 'islamic' banking...which is not Islamic...they have no alternative for a riba free economy, they have nothing to say about fractional reserve banking and anywhere they gain rulership they will continue to keep the kafir banking system going. And this is the root problem with their politics.
