Assalamu alaikum,
The thing with our elders is that they focus on the problems that society actually faces. And it is for this exact reason that they get criticized, because it does not suite people's nafs.
Unfortunately our focus and attention is so focused towards the dunya that we (myself included in this blame) are not willing to make small sacrifices required to put the advices of our akabireen into action.
