I read somewhere, i think hakeem ul ummah's malfoozat tht a person should try to rectify his problem himself first and if the problem doesnt go, then contact the shaikh.

It does not sound like Hakim-ul-Ummah (RA) so I would like to see the actual quote.
Hazrat Thanwi (RA), in my personal experience, is very particular to drive this point home that self propulsion is not very becoming of a student or a seeker.
