I just realised i donate money to UWT admin
almost
without realising it! It's very clever and i like it.
For example the other day, i donated £10 for the Eid Gift fund. it asked me for £0.19p optional donation to cover admin, and of course because i made niyyat for £10, i accepted. So alhumdullilah UWT gets to take that £10 directly to the kids who need it most, and cover their admin.
(I just remembered for a £5 zakatulfitr donation, it was 40p charge i think) - so it varies on the type of donation being made)
I like this, hopefully more charities will do things like this.
For the record, i've been fortunate enough to meet the founder of Islamic relief and the chairman of Muslim Aid - no one can doubt anyone in that organisation's sincere committment to help Muslims. Islamic Relief especially has become a benchmark in its professionalism. Dr Hany El-Banna stated he LIKED it when new Muslim charities came up. because they weren't taking the same money, but helping more Muslims. Also Islamic relief is a member of DECC which is very important because it means it gets non-muslim money also in disasters to do its work. it's work is also sufficiently 'mainstream' that the UK government donated £5 million to it this Ramadan. Think about how many Muslims that will help Inshallah. For sure, they may approach things from a different angle, but then that is what they are for, and that is what UWT is for..
My personal belief is to try to donate (even small amounts) to different charities - they all have their specialisms and they are all doing it with the right niyyat.
p.s. I believe Muslim Aid also has received funding from non-muslim charities to deliver aid in muslim areas (not branded with the non-muslim charities name) - they can only do stuff like this because they operate in a certain way.. and they are still delivering benefit to muslims alhumdullilah
