Default Muslims Starving in the UK, YES in the UK!! - what will you do to help?
Assalamu Alaykum

As we continue to indulge ourselves and our families in massive meals, know that there are Muslim families within our locality that are sleeping hungry and rough.

There is no established Soup Kitchen run by any Muslim organisation in the UK to date. Yet a large number of Muslims attend soup kitchens organised by churches and missionaries in every city in the UK on a daily basis.

We have also heard of Muslims attending the open food court at the Gurdwara on Soho Road (Bham). The Gurdwara provides Daal and Roti 3 times a day. These people have the bare minimum to live on and are unable to afford extra meals.

Many churches have established food banks and are handing out food parcels and the main recipients are Muslim families. The extent of the problem can be understood when we learnt that these organisations are now starting to include Halal tinned meat in their food parcels to cater for the Muslims. In one instance we saw that in order to access the churchs’ food bank, Muslims had to walk past a mosque to collect their food parcels.

We have our big institutions – near enough 1600 mosques in the UK and none have taken the initiative to begin this worthy cause.

We hear horror stories of Muslim families, through no fault of their own, that have not eaten in days! In other cases a Muslim lady out of her desperation became a Christian when her basic needs were not met by her own community and was looked after by a Christian organisation instead.

These cases exist under our very noses but we remain oblivious to them. These people are eligible for Zakaat. We ask that you spend some of your Zakaat money locally so you can help your "neighbours".

In light of this situation, we are pleased to announce the first Islamic run Food Bank in the UK. The food bank will operate from the Birmingham Central Mosque.
The purpose of the food bank is to provide help and support for those in Birmingham that are finding it genuinely difficult to fulfil even their basic needs; food.

We are piloting this scheme in Birmingham, but are happy for people/organisations to replicate our work in other towns and cities.

We do not need any monetary contribution. We ask that you bring in the following foods regularly so that they can be given out to needy families before/during Ramadhaan.

If people wish to donate money then I am looking to create food parcels for the whole month and deliver them to needy families.

The list of foods we request are:
Milk, UHT or powdered
Sugar
Chapatti Flour
Rice
Cooking Spices
Chick Peas
Lentils
Cooking oil
Instant noodles
Fruit juice cartons
Pasta sauces
Tomato tinned
Rice pudding tinned
Tea bags / Coffee
Instant mash potato
Tinned halal meat
Tinned fish
Jam
Biscuits

Look out for Buy One Get One Free (BOGOF) offers.

Please share your thoughts and experience. I am sure many of you will have questions about this so please either post them or email them.
Our contact email address is foodbankuk@gmail.com

We desperately require volunteers and referring agencies in Birmingham to make contact with us asap.

More importantly, please make dua that this project rolls out in the best possible way to bring benefit to those that need it.

The invitation to partake in this blessed deed is now open...
