is there a time limit on the ayat-ul-kurs amal or should i finish it off as early as possible.

It should be finished as early as possible. Don't leave it once you start it. It will have a very bad effect. Because once you start it, many jinns are killed. The amal done on you starts to go back to the amil who did it. All of them become very very angry. If you stop it in between they'll come back in rage.
