Alhamdulillah. This reminded me of what I heard in a bayan of sheikh Maulana Abdus Sattar (DB). When the court forgives a culprit, it still keeps the crime record of the person while Allah SWT erases even our record of sins if we repent to Allah SWT so His SWT slave doesnt feel ashamed on the Day on Judgement in presence of everyone. Such is the mercy and love of Allah SWT. When a person repents after 40 or 50 or 60 or even more number of years, Allah SWT says that there is only delay in the person seeking His SWT forgiveness while there is no delay in Him SWT in granting His SWT forgiveness. When we upset our mothers and we see their forgiveness, even they might taunt us sometimes and then forgive us while Allah SWT won't even taunt. That is how He SWT is merciful.
As far as the part which can bring more harm, then it is better we pray for the one whom we hurt. Allahu alam
I hope someone knowledgable can reply better. Let Allah SWT grant us all tawfeeq to repent sincerely to Allah SWT and make us all pious and beloved to Him SWT.
