Just watched some of that EP v WP game from July 1982.... I can remember being at that game quite clearly as a young bloke. WP ran right over the top of us in that last quarter & that was a bad trait the side had in them that year. EP did a very similar thing a few weeks previous to this game leading by about 3 goals and falling in the last 25 minutes against Swans. These were long drives home in the car, I can never forget that.
After this game (EP v WP July 1982) Grant Dorrington made the EP players walk to Leederville Oval on the Sunday morning in the rain and stand in the middle of Leederville Oval. The West Perth clubrooms were packed with members watching all this, and Dorrington said he "Felt the shame as much as the players did".... He had enough of the fade outs and in the end these things cost EP a much higher position on the ladder. Dorrington actually offered his resignation after the "Walk to Leederville" fiasco, but the board did not accept it.
Almost 30 years later (this year) EP had a similar fade-out against WP on Foundation day. Micale could have re-enacted Dorro's walk to Leederville.... But it wouldnt have been a long walk considering they call it home now.
A Sunday Joondalup walk would have been a bit harsh.... distance wise
