My perpection, in fact, is that Europe is becoming "some king of Somalia". Little by little, I see more and more scum... And, to my mind, there are two reasons explaining this change:
Perception isn't reality. I rather look at the data. Western Europe is far from a violent place. Obviously there would be less crime if certain groups weren't allowed to immigrate in mass without concern for their background. In other words cheap labor from the boondocks of a third world nation isn't a good idea. No one minds a Nigerian engineer. They mind 50 cheap laborers who will have a higher crime rate than the host population.

1- Technological unemployment. People with no hopes in life, who will be always useless as technology will replace them (services and products cheaper, faster and better). That's nice and all but your average small business man is thinking about putting food on the table today. They're not thinking twenty years down the road. Technological advances of the future doesn't put your child through college and pay the medical bills. They want cheap labor.

Big business also cares about the bottom line today. What does future technological advances matter to a CEO if he's booted today for not making a profit? Do you own stocks? Shareholders don't want to hear about "twenty years done the road." They want to know about now. They want to make money today.

2- A salad of ethnic groups with not related each others (little by little, in silence, growing faster than local population). I guess Blacks, Chinese, etc. can't be Catalans after all just by showing up to wave a flag.
