Gingrich's own aid floated the idea.

He doesn't really have anything to lose at this point..

Moon bases and unlimited warfare cost him his bump, and it's too late in the game for him to come back and grab the top spot.

However, it does raise the question of why

would offer him the position? Right now, Newt is helping to keep the race broken up, and he's tempering Santorum's efforts.. So, if you're Mitt Romeny, why would you want to mess that up?
