This wonderful nanny goat by Picasso stands toward the west end of the courtyard garden at MOMA. He got the idea and then, according to Francoise Gilot, he looked for items of junk that could serve as parts of the goat's anatomy. The rear view is equally great (below).
What I like about this work is the way it really conveys the essence of "goat", yet isn't the least a "realistic" reproduction. We kept goats years ago on the farm, so I don't say this from a vacuum. Giacometti's Dog must be compared with this.
