Hmmmm, I don't recall either of your names on my pay stubs when that money was taken out. Nor were they on the yearly SS statements that the Govt sent me. There is a constructive contract between the govt and taxpayers relative to SS and medicare. If the govt wants to change it for young people, fine. But for those of us who paid in for 40+ years, the govt owes it to us, and there is no politician stupid enough to try to change that.
I'm more than happy to stop paying today. I just want back what we both paid into it. No questions asked.

I think SS & Medicare should be voluntary, not mandatory. I also don't know anyone who thinks SS is "retirement". At a whopping $1200 a month or whatever the previous high income earners get, who could live on that? Everyone I know has savings, including us. No SS, we'll be fine. But I still want my money back.
