LOL, I was born in Toledo and it was always a shit hole. Columbus was booming through the 90s/early 2000s as well when I was there. I always had a job. I was in the insurance industry and they had so many insurance companies there, some like Nationwide insurance where headquartered there (still are).
I'm sorry, I didn't know Toledo was your home town. I wouldn't have said that.

I was there in 1989 or 1990 when I worked for Fifth Third in Cinti. We bought a bank up there and I was with a very large group working on the conversion. It was February and therefore "Mardi Gras" in Toledo. We were all pretty young and most of us single so we went out one night looking for fun. We were advised by the hotel staff to check out the Mardi Gras festivities at some mall. So we did. There were about 10 people there wearing beads and dancing around a non-functioning fountain in the mall. It was pathetic.

The most exciting thing about the trip there was the massive destructive accidents on I-75 near Tipp City. That was back in the days before cell phones, and my mother knew I was going there on business. She was home in NJ watching the news and they showed all the accidents and death. We were on the road that day, but were slightly ahead of the carnage. My poor mother was in a panic for hours thinking I was dead.
