Well, that's a real problem.. But it gets much larger if they pick someone from outside the current field.

Bring in an outsider, and that's it.. People are going to say their votes don't matter.. That the whole thing is rigged..

And they'll be right.
But that's how it's supposed to be. It's the party's candidate. Those who have put in the time and effort in the party get to decide who their nominee will be. The rest of us get the chance to pick, but if we can't pull our heads out of our asses and do it, they take it upon themselves to fix the problem. That's how it's always been. That's why you should get involved with the party if you want your opinion to matter. Your vote only counts if it counts.

Going beyond the party, your vote doesn't count for the presidential election anyway. The Founders set it up so you don't get to decide. The Electors decide. If they didn't like the way the popular vote went and decided to put somebody else in, they could do so. You get to pick the Electors, but they aren't truly bound to follow the will of the people that elected them.

We are not a democracy. We are a representative republic.
