I consider myself a conservative, but it's got a broad meaning.

From a personal standpoint, I am conservative. I watch what I spend, don't overextend myself, and expect my kids to be the same as my husband & me - do the right thing, and succeed on your own through hard work, smart moves, and without anyone offering a "hand up" (which I call a "hand out"). I'm not religious, but I believe that religion is important and respect those who follow religious teachings. I don't believe in abortion, and don't believe in discounting marriage vows, but I also believe the second isn't my business. I don't care what others do in their bedroom. I believe in following laws, whether I agree with them or not. I believe everyone who isn't a felon should be able to carry a gun.

From what I expect of the government, I want them to stay the hell away from me as often as possible. I believe that cities/towns and states should have pre-emption over federal laws, should be the only ones to collect taxes from me, and should be there when I need my tax money spent, and otherwise, stay the hell away from me.

I believe in a strong defense because I think there are a lot of nuts in this world. I believe that our Federal government is too big, and 90% of it should be eliminated.

I don't care about gay marriage because it doesn't impact me at all. Live and let live.

I believe that education is what a kid & his parents make of it, and Arne Duncan shouldn't be responsible for my kids.

I believe that "charity" should come from within a community or from those who are inclined and equipped to take care of those who can't care for themselves, and I don't believe it's the obligation of every US citizen to be the helper of all.

I believe that everyone has an equal opportunity to succeed, but I also believe that there is a natural imbalance in life, and not everyone is created equal or has equal capacity. Some will prosper, some won't, but it's up to each of us to set our course in life.

I believe that it's good when corporations make a profit because they employ people, and those people have resources to give back, and so on. I don't believe a corporation is obligated to exist to "create jobs".
