You are flat wrong.
Not even remotely.

It's oft touted as being some great and unconscionable imposition. The reality, however, is that Versaille was something less than what the Germans' indignation made of it.

It restored lands taken (mostly after plebiscite), to it's rightful owners. It left Germany intact, and with every practical trace of sovereignty; with every possibility of regaining it's former status as the most powerful nation in Europe.

What bothered them the most, were the disarmament clauses, and the separation of East Prussia from the Volke, after the return of land taken from Poland, during the partition. Mostly because they considered the Poles an inferior race.

The hysteria that ensued, was not unlike that embraced with the 'stab in the back' myth, wilfuly and eagerly taken to heart, after Germany was roundly defeated on the field of battle. A pathological inability to accept the truth.
