Didn't Rosebud turn out to be be a kid's sled in the end? At least that's what it was in the Ghostbusters cartoon.

The whole film was a loose parody of William Randolph Hearst & company. Yes, it's the sled in the movie, but according to Orson Wells and the director, it implied Hearst's girlfriend's sex organ. Inside joke I guess.
