Parents do need to step up.

My dad would have aborted me, if I'd been caught on camera screaming like a bitch, and running away from a 'ghost girl'.

lol My dad, too. And my husband. He was tough on our boy, as a father should be. He expected no more than he was willing to do himself.

I was a daddy's girl, but raised with a mess of boys. None were scared of ghosts, thugs or bullies, and they didn't allow me to be either. Life was tough. lol But, I got through it and didn't need therapy. lol
