Given the nature of both leaders, it was probably inevitable.
Was it fuck inevitable.
If Russia had thought that, they wouldn't have signed trade agreements with Germany that benefited Hitler far more than themselves. Germany was desperate for such as rubber, oil and foodstuffs that only Russia was willing and able to supply and in such vast quantities. And the military concentration was contingency planning also. One doesn't underestimate a rabid wolf.
