Clever people can be easier. They have too many options, and there's too much for them to keep track of.

Conversely, an idiot has no options, and so they are only ever more truly what they are. In that lies a strength all it's own. S/he cannot be reasoned with, and so you're left looking for a way to crush them by main force. For that, one requires the consensus of other clever people; while they're arguing among themselves, they stretch themselves thin, and the idiot remains an idiot.

Were the idiot actually clever, they'd refer to it as economy of effort.
