We may liken it to Eden.

It wasn't the point that there was the temptation to eat of the tree, but that we ate.

The Lord wanted for us to neither deny nor succumb. The point was for us to immolate ourselves on the pyre of cognitive dissonance. To blaze with all the glory and brightness of free will. Intelligence was irrelevant. We were expected to burn, as He Himself burns.

We failed. Weakness is a given, but the temptation was want of strength.

We can never replace the apple, but, God willing, we may come to realise that the apple was never the point to begin with. For myself, the only original sin was the sin of refusing to accept the impossibility of any rubicon, allied with the refusal to burn.

Would you rather a fire on a cold night, or to sit and shiver?
