Default America, The Purchased
In my opinion, the two key philosophical positions in American politics are one of a non-statist, decentralized, liberty-based society versus one of a statist, centralized, safety based society. With this in mind, one would think that these two distinct philosophies would be represented by our two major political parties. But this is hardly the case.

The vast majority of our elected representatives, from both parties, represent the statist philosophy. They may preach otherwise, of course, but the proof is in the pudding. The Patriot Act, No Child Left Behind, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, our imperialistic foreign policy, the drug war, the welfare system, various subsidization of certain industries, the FDA, these are all STATIST, no matter which party tends to support them!

Obviously, in order to pass legislation, compromise is necessary. But if you watch closely, you’ll notice that they always throw away the non-statist parts of a bill, and compromise by leaving in only the statist parts. The democrats will give up civil liberties in order to keep the nanny state. The republicans will give up on spending cuts in order to maintain the military industrial complex. So on and so forth...

They have us so fooled by their propaganda that we refuse to come together and acknowledge our points of agreement. They feed us a steady stream of horseshit, and we clean our plates, smash our knife and fork on the table and scream for more!

“We be huuuungry, Momma!!!!”

Where is it written that we can’t be against the drug war and the welfare system? Why can we not oppose foreign military actions and the ironfisted regulation of our foods? Why can’t we oppose both foodstamps and mega-farm subsidies? Why can’t we hate both pollution and taxes?

The probable answer is that this nation is ruled by money. It always has been. And the policies in place are making a relatively few people very, very wealthy. We are fooled into believing that we have choices in this country. We don’t really have many. It is all very regimented, whether we know it or not.

Something has to give. The owners of this nation, the real policy-makers, will exploit it until it is nothing but a burned-out husk. These people are “global citizens”, they have little use for patriotism, except when the lie of patriotism supports their purposes abroad. Whenever small brown people across the globe are getting in the way of fortunes being made, out come the flags, pins, and ribbons!

So when someone says “God Damn America!”, I am as appalled as anyone. At first blush, anyway. But maybe we need to ask ourselves, are we on God’s side? Are we even decent by any sort of human standard? I’m not criticizing American citizens, but their handlers.

If anyone sees an answer to this problem that does not involve armed revolt, please enlighten me. I’m not sure I see any other way at this point.

P.S. - If I am found dead by suicide, it WASN’T suicide!
