It worked for my grandfather and for countless other American families. Instead of standing in bread lines, they went back to work and earned their keep.
It's welfare. Let's just be honest.

It's not a "job" it's a handout. We don't need to pay people to plant trees... They need the money, though. So we give it to them and ask for some token labor in return.

And no one's for deliberately breaking a window just so it can be fixed. The jobs created should be for real things that need to be done. There are plenty of potholes that need to be filled and bridges in disrepair that need to be fixed without deliberately vandalizing them. I am aware of that, but like broken windows.. You are re-allocating funds and you witness the results without considering what growth would have been stimulated and supported if the funds had been allocated by the people who earned them in the first place.

If you let DC do it, they're going to hand it off to their crony pals.. and you'll get shit-pennies in return.
