Well, that would be ideal... But, politically speaking, it's not going to happen.

I've looked for support for this on both sides of the isle.. and I can't find it.

Nobody wants these programs to end, and the boomers are a very powerful group.

The best grand compromise I can think of is to pay them, and then demonize anyone who wants to spend money on anything else as "taking bread from gramma"
That's one way to go about it. I'd much rather see some enterprising young politicians (who wouldn't mind being thrown out of office) start calling the elderly what they are: The greediest generation of assholes our country has ever had.

They are the wealthiest demographic, but we have to keep paying for them to not work? They get to travel between Wisconsin and Phoenix every year and buy an RV, but I've got to fucking subsidize their income and medical care? I don't give a rat fuck if they all die. Something tells me they'd be just fine, for the most part. Or, God forbid, they'd have to sell their home and move into an apartment, or even worse, move in with their own fucking kids! ZOMG!!!

I'm not going to take it easy on the elderly. I'm going to continue to make them feel guilty publicly as much as I can. They got us into this, but we have to honor "promises" some asshole made 40 years ago? No thanks.
