50 years in prison for a DUI? Absurd.

No.

1 week in prison for the DUI. 49 years, 51 weeks in prison for being entrusted to serve the public and the country, and breaking the law instead.

If we're going to call these people 'special'.....let's hold them to special standards. If they don't think they can do it....it's not the job for them.
