I'm pretty sure that the global warming trend is a long term thing, not a representative of temporary annual weather patterns. It is best measured by net sea ice after annual freezes and thaws. Polar ice is a natural thermometer which has nothing to do with politics. Unfortunately the issue has been politicized. Again, if this trend continues it is something that will probably have dire effects over a scale of 10's of thousands of years.

I don't think it is a bad idea to become aware of our personal impact and make a gradual attempt to lean toward clean energy as technology improves.
