I don't thing that has a thing to do with him though, there was a really good time after Vietnam for us, we were still the leaders in the economy, we were much more respected back then.

Carter while he may have not been President during this time, is partially responsible for the economic downturn, because of his economic strategy. One could argue the Carter helped us by showing us what not to do to help the economy.

I would also say that George Bush Sr. did little of anything, and Clinton boasted great foreign relations, and a good economy.

I would have to say that although we were in for a slight downturn at the come of his Presidency, it wasn't so much that we had to go the way we did. I would say that these times began in the Year 2000, When Clinton left and Bush Jr. took over. Not to say that Clinton is not like Carter, his policies may be partially responsible for the economic downturn, although he didn't lay the straw that broke the camel's back

As bad as Nixon was said to be, as terrible things he said, as paranoid as he was he made an excellent President. You're talking about the man who ended the war in Vietnam! The Economic ideas have shifted ever so much from the times of Nixon. Back then we ran the Country as if it was extremely serious business, now we run it like it's a video game! We don't think things through, we don't use common sense.

What could it be I wonder that shifted us so heavily from that era. Drugs, no they were around... Promiscuity? My Grandmother would probably have thought so, but I don't. High Fructose Corn Syrup? Maybe. Whatever it is, it sure is a shame.
