I wasn't around before they added 'under god' but I say it without it.

Here's the original, written in 1892,by Francis Bellamy, a Baptist minister:
'I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.'

That is the one I use.
