My cultural roots are European (German) and the wolf has always held negative connotations.

In my Taoist philosophy there is no significance for the wolf.

But for me, personally, wolves have always been an animal of interest.

The wolf is a social animal where the alpha male dominates the pack. There will also generally be an alpha female. The pack takes care of all its members as long as the members understand their position in the pack and cooperate with the alpha male and female.

But very often there is the mature male who wishes to take on some of the pleasures of the alpha male. These younger males are either killed or driven from the pack.

This creates the lone wolf. I have always been a lone wolf. I have always admired the lone wolf because his life is much like mine has been. Yes, I have been the alpha male on a number of occasions but I was always called back to the lone wolf way of life.

I admire the lone wolf for his self sufficiency. I pride myself with that trait as well. And it has been documented many times that a lone wolf will become a strong friend of humans for as long as there is a desire on the part of both.

Peace & Love!
