I was once a teenage Buddhist in the not so distant past. My initial interest in Buddhism developed in my early teens and flourished throughout the latter part. For me, this was an excellent time in life to begin learning about and practicing Buddhism because it was when I began to really think for myself and find my own path.
The teen years are a period of discovery. They hold a lot of potential for personal growth. Exploring Buddhism with your kids sounds like an opportunity for all of you to learn something new. As long as your approach stays away from any form of indoctrination and starts with the basics, sharing Buddhism with your children could be a wonderful experience.
Thich Nhat Hanh's
The Stone Boy and Other Stories
is a great book for kids and adults alike. It provides a clear glimpse at Vietnamese culture and universal themes like compassion. TNH's style is poetic and appropriate for all ages. Whether you start with this collection of stories or another text, please enjoy it together as a family.
