Hi Shaylee, as Aloka said, more information about what has distressed you can lead to better advice.
What has helped me somewhat is to look at the cause of my distress and try to understand it. I feel a lot of raw pain and for awhile, at first, tend to be blinded by it. With a little time I find I can look at the cause, and start to understand it. (However, my brain is wired to try to understand things; please know this does not work for everyone).
As to Buddhist teachings, try to realize that your distress is temporary like all things in life. (Yes, this is incredibly difficult sometimes.) Try to acknowledge it, then let it go.
