There's an old adage in Asia that a student looking for a teacher should observe the prospective teacher for 10 years (or something like that) before choosing. Of course, it's an exaggeration, but it makes a point. Observe for a long time before choosing, and even after choosing, keep observing. Being a disciple or student does not entail being a blind follower. Good luck!
