In my experience the only time "colorism" plays a big role is when it comes to inter-racial dating. Lighter skin AA females, ie "yellow bones" having more success than dark skin AA females ie "redbones" (depends on your definition). Conversely AA males around my skin tone have more success in interracial coupling than light skin AA males.

This is just from my personal experience of course. Perhaps it is because if a white or latino female wanted a light skinned male they would simply go for a latino male?
